1979 Rickenbacker 4001 Autumnglo Vintage Electric Bass Guitar, Montezuma Brown

  

Up for sale, a 1979 Rickenbacker 4001 boasting the original Autumnglo finish. Essentially a satin-finished incarnation of the custom color Rickenbacker would later christen "Montezuma Brown, " the Autumnglo finish is a true rarity. Currently strung with fresh 45-105 roundwound strings, there's equal parts midrange power and fundamental warmth available via the two original Hi-Gain single coil pickups on this 4001.

Weighing 9lbs 7oz and fully serviced here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this 4001 is dialed in with comfortable action and solid intonation. The neck has a full C profile carve with shoulders that are nicely rounded yet not too overt, offering easy playability in every register and measuring. 920 deep at the 1st fret and. The 33 1/4 scale is Rickenbacker's traditional long scale, and the gloss-finished slab rosewood fretboard features original slender frets and pearl triangle inlays. The frets show moderate wear, most prominent beneath the A and D strings on frets 1-7.

The neck is straight, the truss rods are responsive and ideally adjusted, and the bass plays cleanly in every register. The nut measures 1 5/8 in width. The original Rickenbacker logo/truss rod cover is present, and the bass features a set of new clover button tuning machines with extremely smooth and reliable gears. The bass does exhibit a couple repairs of note, with a sender split extending from just below the bass side fretboard edge along the E-A tuner line of the headstock and very cleanly repaired. The Rick-o-Sound stereo jackplate has a cleanly stamped SF-prefix serial number that dates to June of 1979. The stock wiring harness is mounted to a replacement single-ply black pickguard courtesy of Pickguardian. Cosmetic wear beyond the structural repairs includes some scattered marks on the body parameter, a small spot of wear through the gloss on the back of the bass-side body horn, and one mark at the bass-side waist where an extra long bridge mounting screw made its way through the maple on the back.
