Up for sale, a 1997 Fender Custom Shop'62 Stack Knob Jazz Bass Relic in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This early Custom Shop bass is one of the original Cunetto Relics, with a tastefully executed, masterfully aged Sonic Blue nitro lacquer finish. One of purportedly less than 200 Relic basses produced in the Cunetto era, this bass features a vintage-spec custom color finish in the years before Fender had done their forensic research and reissued all of their classic custom colors. Thankfully, Cunetto had already done the legwork, perfectly matching the original DuPont Sonic Blue lacquer of Fender's golden era of production.

A brief moment at the genesis of the Relic concept, the Cunetto Relics were actually finished and relic'd at Cunetto's satellite shop in Springfield, MO before being sent back to Fender in Corona, CA for final assembly. This bass has the visual appeal, effortless feel, and tonal breadth of a genuine'60s Stack Knob, and. The craftsmanship at hand is unmistakable. Combined, the two pickups can produce an array of sounds that fit in well in virtually any live or recording situation. Professionally dialed in and tweaked to perfection here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Custom Shop bass is strung with 45-105 roundwound strings.

Combined, the two pickups can produce an array of sounds that fit in well in almost any live or recording situation. The neck has a slender C shaped profile with gradual taper, measuring.

825 deep at the 1st fret and. The neck has more depth as you travel up the board, filling out to a substantial handful in the highest registers, yet still feeling quick and effortless to play, given the slender 1 1/2 nut width and lightly rolled fretboard edges. The dark, tight grained rosewood fretboard is a generous slab that sports dot inlay and slender, vintage-spec fretwire which is virtually flawless. The neck is straight, the truss rod is responsive, and the bass plays well in all registers. On the headstock, the vintage spec "reverse" tuning machines turn very smoothly and hold pitch well, and the Custom Shop logo is embossed into the wood on the back of the headstock. Gastelum stamp references Fender's legendary neck shaper, Herbie Gastelum, alongside a stamp for equally legendary Master Builder John Cruz. Both the neck heel and the body beneath the R-prefix neck plate have their original Relic stamps as well, and the heel is pencil dated 1-10-97. All of the electronics work flawlessly, with untouched solder and CTS pots which date to late 1996. The chrome hardware has been faintly aged as part of the relic process while still having plenty of shine. The neck profile is pristine and smooth, with no notable wear. The original tweed hardshell case is included, along with a few hangtags and the stock cable. Check out our shop "Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, " and please let us know if we can answer any questions!
