Built in the 1980's which makes it'nearly vintage'. Pretty rare, very few made - this one's serial number is in the low hundreds. Through-neck design, choice quarter-cut maple wood body&neck, DiMarzio pickups, brassplated? Bridge, brass nut, 24frets(frets are in a good state with little to no wear). Plays well(a buzz on the E string 8th fret but that's all, which could be because of less tension due to missing A string) This bass has been beautifully crafted, and well looked after through it's life - it is in excellent condition for its age. No major dings or blemishes to the finish. Sad to see it go because it is a fine example, and certainly a good'investment' for the future. It hasn't been played for many years now, though, so it's time to find it's way into the hands of an appreciative musician.

The bass comes in a good quality flight case(kind of pro-world-tour standard), and it has clearly done it's job in protecting the bass over the years although unfortunately it needs a new handle, which would require a spot of riveting. As I said, I haven't played it in a long time and when I recently took the bass out to give it a once-over the A string broke at the tuner. (So perhaps ready for new strings all round).

The electronics are all good, and in working order. No scratching from the pots. A bit of crackle at the jack socket, but only if you purposely wiggle it about. I worked through all the combinations of the two selector switches.

It seems that some positions split the P-bass pickups,'killing' one of them -'coil tap' I think is the phrase. I'll try to describe it. Bass makes a sound through amp = OK.

C - down; S - down; OK. C - middle; S down; OK. C - up; S down; OK. C - down; S - up; OK. C - middle; S - up; OK. C - up; S - up; OK. C - down; S middle; Sound from D/G strings only ie. C - middle; S middle; OK (all strings) - Could be both P-bass active, J-bass killed or vice versa(forgot to listen to the tone). Anyway, I thought I should describe it just to give you an idea of the bass's versatility. Tone and volume knobs can be used with switches to blend many different sounds. I can'box' it though if you'd prefer. So, grab yourselves a bargain! Please look closely at the photos and use your own discernment.
