1958 Fender Precision Bass

  

For sale : Original 1958 Fender Precision Bass. Restored about 12 years ago in California. This Bass has had quiet a few changes including a professional re-finish to the body and a pro re-fret. Both the Neck and Body pencil dates are present, the pickguard is a replacement - I don't know if its Fender made.

The Original pickups with the raised A pole are in it but I assume they have been re-wound; the windings do look correct but it has been re-wired (though they sound like it should). The pots are newer but I have an original'58 pair / with original loom and output jack available separately. The Headstock has had a crack / pro repair - its never moved in the 10 or so years i'v owned the Bass. The finish to the back of the Neck and the Headstock along with the decal are original. There has been some work on the back of the Neck where it sits in the Neck pocket to align the Neck. There is some damage to the'G' Tuner back plate and adjacent wood. The Bridge & all its components; Control Knobs, Tuners and Neck plate are original. The Control caverty has had a repair. The Truss Rod works as it should and it is not sunk into the Neck, The Neck is straight, the action low and its slung with Flat Wounds - Its has the classic full bodied 50's / 60's P Bass sound that you get from old wood (Its argued that Fender in this period use 40 year old mature wood - if so making the wood circa 100 years old and hence the Tone) It plays and sounds brilliant and is a great player for a price not much more than a new Custom Shop Copy. The Bass has its originality issue but has been wonderfully restored. It was restored by the renown Fiesta Finishes in Cali, I bought it from its next (UK) owner. The re-finish is very good and has yellowed.

Its a 62 year old survivor and good for may more decades :. It Weighs 8.8 lb's on my bathroom scales. Some say the'57 /'58 P Bass is the'Holy Grail' of all the P Bass's.

Even during the last financial crisis prices of Vintage Fenders continued to rise as people put their cash into physical assets that are a store of value!
