The original slender frets show. Moderate uniform wear on the crowns of frets 1-4, with lighter wear until fret 7 and sparingly little wear further up the fretboard. The scale length measures 31 1/2", and the nut is a full 1 5/8" in width (nut width measured at the zero fret). On the headstock, the tuners are a particularly robust original set with fairly massive gears that turn smoothly and have original black plastic oval buttons. All electronics work as they should, and all original hardware is intact including the mint green pickguard and trio of skirted metal knobs which show uniform surface patina.
The bridge is a unique design that takes a page from Mosrite's playbook, with the strings anchored to a thick rosewood block behind the aluminum bridge. The original chrome "ashtray" bridge cover is intact, as is the height-adjustable mute, which has fresh foam.
The fairly radical body was a harbinger of things to come as Yamaha's more "way out" Flying Samurai shapes were introduced close on the heels of the SB-2. Cosmetic wear is limited to buckle rash on the back. And various small scuffs and dings around the body edges.
