Up for sale, a 1990 Rickenbacker 4003S/5 in exceptional, collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. An exceedingly rare custom color 5-string iteration of the 4001S platform, this bass is also decidedly more vintage-centric than Rickenbacker's current iteration of the 4003S/5. And u nlike most Rickenbacker colors that receive the "glo" suffix, this rare factory color is simply dubbed "Red, " with the factory markings for this custom color present in the control cavity. Retaining the unbound body/neck of the 4001S as well as the vintage-spec Toaster Top neck position single coil, this Rickenbacker is robust and rumbling, with the rich sustain afforded the neck through body design. The bass has both Rickenbacker's distinctive midrange-forward growl and articulation from the bridge position Hi-Gain coil, as well as a more tempered vintage-style burp and smoothness from the Toaster, a combination that provides a broad tonal palette and the added benefit of the extended range of the Low B string.

The original fretwire is flawless, and the bass plays easily up the 33 1/4 scale.
