70s Hohner Japan'Lawsuit' 50s Precision Bass Sunburst with Maple Fretboard
For sale is a Japanese-made Hohner'lawsuit' P Bass, dating from circa 1970s. Dating from the period which got a few Japanese manufacturers in trouble for producing guitars that were incredibly to the original designs they were inspired by. As such, this a fairly accurate reproduction of a 50s P Bass featuring a maple neck with maple fretboard, truss rod to bass of neck and even factory F-style bass tuners. The eagle-eyed will note that despite the guitar's lean into 50s specs, this design is somewhat a hodgepodge of 50s/60s specs - e. The tortoiseshell pickguard, Sunburst shade, maple neck etc. The previous owner removed the decal, assumably to get it closer to its American counterpart. For this reason, I had initially struggled to identify the maker of this bass. However, despite the decal removal it retains its original serial number, whose font/style is unique to Hohner models of this period. It is otherwise all original, very clean and playing fantastically. There are some marks to the finish commensurate with gentle play over the past decades, though no signs of serious damage or previous repairs. Plays nicely with a comfortable action, with surprisingly responsive factory pickups. A fantastic example of a 70s Japanese P Bass at a bargain price. Ollie's Guitars is an independent Nottingham-based business run solely by myself - Ollie. All guitars receive a basic shop setup, including the action being set comfortably, a fresh set of strings and all electronics / pots cleaned (unless otherwise specified).
