80s Japanese Tokai Hard Puncher P-Bass With Case, 10watt Amp & Preamp Pedal

  

You're looking at my original Japanese made 1984 Tokai Hard Puncher P-Bass in a naturally aged white finish. It's appreciating in value and has a cool factor the modern competition can't match. I'm bundling this listing with a tatty but solid hard case - it looks like it might be the original for the 80s - and a great little Ampeg BA-108 10-watt bass combo. The Hard Puncher is obviously Tokai's take on the classic Fender P-Bass. My example feels, plays and sounds like an boss early 70s Fender.

The neck and body finish has the appearance of aged nitrocellulose but I doubt it is. That said, the finish has the sunken into the wood grain vibe on the back of the bass.

Regardless of what the finish is, it looks super cool. The bridge and machine heads have been swapped for high quality Schaller replacements. I don't have the originals but classic spec examples are easily sourced. The electrics and pickups appear original. This Hard Puncher plays like a dream. The rosewood fingerboard and frets are in excellent condition. Tuning stability is rock solid. There are some dents in the body, plus a couple on the back of the neck. Considering this thing is 40 years old this year, it's looking seriously good. I originally thought the serial number dated this bass to 1981. The "lawsuit" Fender style headstock shape and logo also mark this out as a slightly later example - around 1984. The headstock shape of Tokai guitars and basses was modified in 1985 to appease Fender. Summing up, this is a pro standard P-Bass design that was so good it forced Fender to up its game. It's currently strung with flat wound strings. It sounds killer, plays like a dream, and comes in the coolest finish.

You also get a mint Ampeg BA-108 10-watt amplifier as part of the deal. This comes with the original box, manual and power cable. It's a great amp for home use and rehearsals. It can be used upright or on its side, monitor style.

I'll also throw in the Ampeg Classic Analog Bass Preamp pedal shown in the photos. This is mint in the box with instructions. This pedal gives you classic Ampeg tones no matter what amp you play through.
